Jasmine gannon
Jasmine Gannon is a Photographer currently based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Her academic and professional career has so far seen her through a National Diploma at the Lincoln College of Art and Design and a Ba Honors degree in Fine Art Photography at the university of Gloucestershire. Jasmine's work is applicable to many areas of photography, though she specialises in portraiture and intimacy, working on a personal level.
Personally, I find photography as much like a therapeutic process and a vision, as a creative one. The use of a camera
as not only a connection to subjects but also a barrier is fascinating to me conceptually, and is something that has become a
continuing exploration within my own work.
Generally, I prefer to work with film, as the slower, mysterious tendencies give me a much bigger sense of excitement and satisfaction.
I also feel that with film I can connect with the location and my subjects much better, by taking the time to notice and
consider them much more.
Though my work tends to take personal travels, becoming much of a confrontational device, I want to connect with others.
I want to provoke reaction and emotion, be that one of anger, sadness, realisation, or any other that may occur.
More recently, I have begun to delve into found imagery and 'memory work', looking into personal and autobiographical art and
the psychological/conceptual reasons for creating such work. My most recent project in progress reflects my investigation into such
areas, delving into personal areas and issues of my family's past, relationships and secrets.
I am no longer solely focused on creating an aesthetically pleasing image. I want to create thought, and question my audience as well
as myself, using photography as an exploration device, connecting with the world and the people around me in a less conventional way.
